Aseptic Vs Sterile

The difference between sterile and aseptic technique is not properly understood. Both terms are using in the medical setting and apply to the safekeeping of the food and perishable goods that may attack by bacteria, viruses, and fungus.

What Is Medical Asepsis?

Medical Asepsis?

The asepsis is a condition in which the nonliving disease that causes the microorganisms are present.

It covers all those procedures that design to reduce the risk of bacterial, viral, and fungal contamination by using sterile instruments, no-touch technique, and sterile draping.

The asepsis goal is to prevent the contamination that insures by the use of sterile devices, instruments, and material by creating the environment which is low in the microbe volume.

The asepsis is easily achieving in the typical hospital and the community settings.

Different Types Of Aseptic Techniques?

Different Types Of Aseptic Techniques

People are work in a variety of healthcare settings and they use aseptic techniques. The aseptic techniques are not like surgical asepsis but they are known as a sterile technique.

It refers to the set of infection control practices which is necessary for the use of operating rooms. According to the Joint Commission, there are 4 different aspects of aseptic techniques to practice. These are:

1. Barriers

Barriers can prevent the transmission of germ between the patients and healthcare professionals and the environment.

The barrier aseptic technique includes sterile gloves, sterile drapes, sterile gowns and the protective wrappers of the sterilized instruments.

2. Equipment And Patient Preparation

The healthcare providers are also using sterile equipment and instruments. To the further protections of the patients. For the prevention of infection, healthcare providers apply the cleansing and bacteria-killing preparations of the patient skin before a procedure.

3. Environmental Controls

Healthcare providers have to consider the patient’s immediate surroundings. It is necessary to maintain the environment before and during the procedure.

This design area is known as the aseptic field. For maintaining the aseptic environment you needs:

  • A limited person is allow
  • limiting entry in the are of aseptic
  • Minimize the movement of in and out of the aseptic field,
  • Keeping the doors close
  • Only one patient allows for the one aseptic field.

4. Contact Guidelines

Once the healthcare professionals wash their hands and have sterile barriers, then they should just follow the sterile contact guidelines. These guidelines prohibit any contact between the nonsterile items and sterile.

The health care professionals only touch sterile objects and sterile surfaces. They don’t touch the nonsterile items at all costs these guidelines also apply to the sterile devices.

If the sterile instrument is falling down off the ground. Then the healthcare professionals remove this instrument and resterilize the instrument before use.
